‘Raazi’: Farooq Abdullah doesn’t want Sehmat’s real identity to get revealed, here’s

The office of the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister reportedly confirmed that he wrote to author Harinder Sikka. In his letter, Abdullah reportedly reminded Sikka that a decade ago, the author had agreed to guard identities, which was commendable. He also requests him to keep it that way.

He further reportedly wrote that there are millions who work and pray for one Hindustan. Kashmiris are wonderful, simple and peace-loving people. And those who visit the Valley will vouch for their integrity.

Reportedly, when Farooq Abdullah was informed about the manuscript of the book, he realised that real identities may be revealed and it wouldn't be difficult to locate Sehmat's family which could put the family at risk. After reading the manuscript, Abdullah advised the author to change names and present it as a fictional account. The author agreed. Now, when there was a chance that identities could be publically revealed at an event in June, Abdullah penned this letter.

Harinder Sikka reportedly has been dropped subtle hints that he will be unveiling the real identity of ‘Sehmat’ after having it kept as a secret for years.

Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions’ ‘Raazi’ narrates the story of Sehmat Khan, who is trained to become a spy and then married off to a Pakistan Army officer.

2/27‘Raazi’: Real Sehmat’s first love doesn’t want her identity to get revealed!
Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’ revolves around the life of an Indian spy Sehmat, played by Alia Bhatt who is married to a Pakistani officer. The critically acclaimed spy thriller is reportedly based on a true story. The film is mainly an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel titled ‘Calling Sehmat’. The movie has brilliantly showcased the central theme of love for the country, and the love that gradually develops in the protagonist Sehmat for her Pakistani husband. While the movie completely focuses on Sehmat’s devotion towards her nation, there is an untold love story which has been revealed in the novel.

Reportedly it is the love that blossomed between Sehmat and Abhinav (not real name) who studied with her in Delhi University.
While the real-life Sehmat passed away recently, her first love Abhinav is alive and stays in Delhi. It is the love and loyalty he has towards Sehmat that he doesn’t want her identity to get revealed in front of the world.

While the writer of ‘Calling Sehmat’, Harinder Sikka is keen to reveal the identity of our Indian spy, Abhinav has insisted him not to do so. Harinder had kept Sehmat’s identity under wraps until now, however, he feels it is the right time to reveal it for the nation to know who the real unsung hero was.

As per reports, even Farooq Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed his concerns to Sikka of maintaining Sehmat’s identity a secret.

In a brief message, he reportedly wrote that there are several people for work and pray for the well-being of Hindustan. He further praised Kashmiris and said that they are wonderful, simple and peace-loving people; and those who visit the Valley will vouch for their integrity.
He further mentioned that when Sikka first introduced him with the book ‘Calling Sehmat’ a decade again, he was delighted and therefore, wrote a foreword on it. He even appreciated him for keeping his request of retaining Sehmat’s real identity under wraps. And he even expressed the desire for continuing the same.

However, even after Farooq Abdullah’s personal letter and Abhinav’s special request, Harinder Sikka is still willing to release the identity of real Sehmat. The writer intends to release a picture of the unsung hero after getting an approval from other people who were close to Sehmat. If all goes well, the writer might release the real-life Sehmat’s picture in the month of June.

While Sehmat’s picture will be released or no is still a question, the real-life Sehmat has been winning hearts of many with ‘Raazi’. Directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions, the film is proving to be a hit box office.
